The dildo looks excellent. The colour is your thing, the shape has your attention, and the description says “body-safe” three times. Lovely. What is the bloody thing made from?
That question gets you further than the reassuring phrase. “Body-safe” alone doesn't identify a material, prove testing or tell you how to clean the toy. You want useful details about the part touching your body.
Start with the actual material
Silicone, ABS plastic, stainless steel and glass are specific material names. “Silky”, “luxurious” and “real-feel” describe an impression. They don't answer the same question.
A vibrator can have a silicone surface and an ABS handle. A soft masturbator sleeve may use TPE or TPR, which are different from silicone. The outside of the packaging being delightfully vague doesn't make those differences disappear.
You don't need to become a chemist to buy a sex toy. You do need to know which material is going where. If the seller can't say, a flattering product photo isn't enough to fill the gap.
Softness and cleanliness are separate things
A soft toy can feel inviting, but softness alone doesn't tell you how easily it can be cleaned. Nor does a firm toy automatically make it a better purchase.
Silicone varies in firmness. Glass and steel are rigid. TPE and TPR products often have a softer, skin-like feel and can need more careful cleaning and drying. Choose the feel you want with the care involved in mind.

A safety claim needs more than a nice word
“Phthalate-free” describes the absence of a particular group of substances. It isn't a complete verdict on the toy. “Medical-grade” also needs evidence behind it, rather than being treated as a magic phrase.
An international sex-toy safety standard, ISO 3533, does exist. It covers material, design and user-information requirements. A toy doesn't meet it merely because its description sounds reassuring, and mentioning the standard isn't the same as evidence that a particular product complies.

The surface still matters after you've bought it
A chipped glass toy, torn coating or cracked surface is a reason to stop using it. So is a material that becomes tacky or starts breaking down. Don't put a damaged toy back in the drawer and hope you'll be less bothered next time you're horny.

Choose the toy for the way you'll use it
Material is one part of the decision. Shape, size, an appropriate base for anal use and comfortable controls matter too. Even a clearly named material can't make every toy suitable for every body or activity.
