You're kissing, the clothes are coming off, and the condom packet suddenly expects you to have an opinion about polyisoprene. Not the word you were hoping to hear whispered in your ear.
Here's the useful bit: latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane are different condom materials. They change the feel, stretch and lube compatibility. If latex doesn't suit you, there are other options without abandoning protection.
Latex is a stretchy, widely available choice
Latex condoms are made from natural rubber. They come in different sizes, thicknesses and textures, so disliking one doesn't mean you've disliked every latex condom ever made.
A condom that squeezes uncomfortably may be the wrong size. One that drags may need more compatible lube. Neither problem is improved by announcing that condoms just aren't your thing and hoping your partner changes their mind.
Use water-based or silicone-based lube with latex. Oil can damage it. And if either person has a latex allergy, choose a suitable non-latex condom instead.
Polyisoprene offers a rubber feel without latex proteins
Polyisoprene is a synthetic rubber used in non-latex condoms. It doesn't contain the natural latex proteins that trigger latex allergy, while still offering a soft, stretchy feel.
It's worth considering if you like that flexibility but need to avoid latex. Non-latex doesn't mean oil-friendly, though: oil can also damage polyisoprene. Water-based or silicone-based lube keeps the choice straightforward.
That bottle of massage oil can stay involved in the massage. It doesn't need to join every activity just because it's already beside the bed.
Polyurethane feels different again
Polyurethane is a plastic used in some non-latex condoms. It has less stretch than rubber, so fit can feel different. It may suit someone who wants another option beyond latex and polyisoprene.

Natural membrane isn't an STI barrier
Natural-membrane condoms, often called lambskin, are different again. They may prevent pregnancy, but they aren't suitable for preventing HIV or other STIs.
“Natural” on a packet doesn't mean it does every job you need. If STI protection is part of your plan, choose an appropriate synthetic or latex barrier instead. Condoms reduce risk; they don't eliminate every infection risk, especially where uncovered skin is involved.
Choose for both people's comfort
Irritation isn't always caused by the condom material. Lubricant, fragrance or other added ingredients can also be involved. Stop if something irritates you, and seek advice for severe or persistent symptoms rather than repeatedly putting up with it.
